Steve,I really enjoyed the work you did with Hugh Carswell (I’anson). i have read Hughs blog about file sharing with you and how delighted he was with the results. I wondered how you approach something like this? you receive the file of the music etc. Where do you get the inspiration for your “part” do you find multiple takes achieve the best result or is first captured sometimes the best? do you work to a timeline or wait for inspiration? thanks in advance. Ross

Usually, (on a good day) I know what I want to try right away after hearing the track for the first time. If this doesn’t work out then a more exploratative process ensues. Multiple takes are always necessary from which a comp can be made. Alternatively, if the track is being programmed then it’s a longer slower process of layering the parts. Often it’s a combination of both.
