Steve, why were mostly David on the album covers and not the whole band?

The argument would be that it’s a struggle to make a whole band equally as striking on a cover and therefore you’d have to go with the front man. I actually think that’s generally quite true (although I’d suggest the back of Tin Drum would be a better cover than the front). By way of example, here are the test polaroids from the ‘Gentlemen Take Polaroids’ shoot (without any lightning special effects in band shot). The heavy make-up was supposed to be more bleached out as with the actual cover, (you can see this working better on David and Richard) but you get the idea (the white specs are caused by the images ageing).
