I enjoyed the recording process, first in Germany in a snow bound studio for weeks, and later down at The Manor in Oxfordshire. Virgin were not deeply committed and struggled with a conflict of interest in solo activities (their view not mine). They were still a relatively young label and being very careful with budgets and the album didn’t sell sufficiently for them to feel confident about investing more, which was fair enough. I wasn’t too comfortable with the direction but it seemed like the right time to give it a shot. The tracks that I felt were closer to our comfort zone were ‘Catch The Fall’ and ‘My Winter’, the rest were something of an exercise into the more accessible side of song-writing whilst attempting to offer something a little different.
